To the hills
The Tuscan hill town of Volterra is a picturesque place made for exploring, full of history and good food. The bus dropped us off just outside the wall. Thus began our tourist parade as we rolled thunderously through the town pulling our wheeled bags behind us to our hotel. Before dinner, we enjoyed a glass of Prosecco in the hotel lobby to welcome us to Tuscany.
Cecilia described our second group dinner that night as “demanding,” meaning that it demanded a lot of space in our stomachs. It was delicious and certainly demanded an evening stroll to walk some of it off before bed. The next morning we met up with our local guide Annie and learned a lot about the Etruscans, the town history, and saw alabaster being worked. After a wonderful afternoon of exploring the nooks and crannies of this ancient town we met up for a wine tasting with Annie's husband Francesco. Dinner was on our own - great pizza with a couple of our tour buds. Highlights:
